Cheviot Hills Earth Wall - September 2009
Trajan was awarded a contract to seed an earthen basket wall along the boundary of a mixed use commercial development in North Raleigh, NC. The wall stretches for about 3400 linear ft and at it highest point reaches just over 40ft.
Some of the challenges we faced the 6 ft fence along the top of the wall and a small berm approximately 8-10 ft inside and running parallel to the fence to prevent water runoff over the wall. The ground was very soft as it approached the fence and forced us to use a larger boom lift that could stay back on solid ground. Vehicle access was limited to the bottom of the wall.
We applied Flexterra @ 3500 lbs/acre in a two-step process. The first pass consisted of the seed and soil amendments. The seed was a special mix developed by Pennington Seed for this particular application. The mix consisted Greystone and Hard Fescues, Annual Rye, Weeping Lovegrass, Hairy Vetch, and Durana Clover.
